Passchendaele Remembered

Downham Market will hold a small service to remember the fallen at Passchendaele on:  Saturday 16th September 2017 at 10:45am on the Town Square. 'Fly the Red Duster'

Updated: 04-Sept-17 Downham Market Town Council proudly flew the Red Ensign over the Town Hall for Merchant Navy Day, 3rd September 2017 to show the towns support for the seafarers on which the UK depends. The Red Ensign was raised on Friday 1st September by the Mayor, Cllr Frank Daymond in a small ceremony and flew to the 4th September. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mrs Yvonne Thompson placed a wreath at the town memorial on Sunday 3rd September. The Importance of the Merchant Navy Downham Market Mayor Cllr Frank Daymond receives  the Red Ensign from Cllr Mike Howland RNA.  The Red Ensign or 'Red Duster' has been the recognised flag of the Merchant Navy since 1854, and is therefore inextricably linked with the world-wide trade of the United Kingdom. Downham Market Town Council Presents The 11th Annual Downham Market Water Festival Sunday 13th August 10:00 to 17:00 Hythe Bridge The currently quite site will be a hive of activity come the water festival The 11th Annual Water Festival is upon us, come Sunday the land by Hythe Bridge between Bridge Road and the Great Ouse (flood) Relief Channel will be the site of this great family community event.  The Blue Bayou will be at the entrance welcoming you.... ....along with the Mayor Cllr Frank Daymond From 10:00 AM the the site on land will be open to the public, with fair ground rides, stalls for charities, crafts, trade and activities and, of course, a selection of food stalls.
