The Eleventh Downham Market Water Festival

As we reach the end of July and the beginning of the schools summer holidays Downham Market has only weeks until its annual Water Festival on the 13th August 2017. This will be the Eleventh year that the event has been run and again we look forward the fun on and in the Great Ouse Relief Channel.

But why not come and take part? We still have space for Dragon Boat teams, and with our waterside partners at Gable Events for the entry fee will provide a boat, paddles, drum, bouyancy aids and safety equipment. All you need is a team of 11, and you can compete for the glory of winning, or at least not getting (that) wet.

If you can't make a team of 11, let us know as we are looking at putting together a scratch team on the day.

Mums, did you know that DADS may be having a team? Surely you can do beat them?

If you don't fancy racing, we are always looking for volunteers to help out on the site during the day.

Own a stall? Want a stall for the day? then also let us know.

So, why not contact Martin or Nikki at Downham Market Town Council for more information? They are always more than happy to help and can be contacted on (01366) 387770, martin@downhammarkettc.co.uk, nikki@downhammarkettc.co.uk

And today we will leave you with words from the Mayor, Cllr Frank Daymond, so come along and join in this fabulous community family event.

"As Mayor of Downham Market, I would like to welcome everyone to the Eleventh Dragon Boat Races and Water Festival in, and on, the backs of the River Great Ouse Relief Channel.

I hope that you enjoy the paddling jousts of the Dragon Boat teams, their camaraderie and friendly rivalry, that you get to sample the delights of the food stalls, and the fun of the fairground, that you find some bargains on the various side-stands, and try your luck at the various charity stall challenges, supporting local causes.

I must thank Thurlow Nunn for kindly allowing us the use of their land, The Environment Agency for the use of the Relief Channel and the river bank and all those 'unknowns' and 'un-named' organisations and helpers - and of course, all the members of the public, the Downham Market community. Without your support this event wold not be as successful as it is, and has been on the previous 10 occasions.

Please enjoy the fun, friendly banter, and competitiveness of this fabulous community family event"
